So imagine my shocked sucking a lemon look when I opened Facebook this morning and there in my feed was.....wait for it......details of the release of the new Lego Advent Calendars for Christmas 2016. When I had stopped spluttering my tea, and reconciled in my head that we did only have three and a half months until Christmas I decided to take a peek at what all the fuss is about. After all, Chiquitito will be nearly 6 come this Xmas and is most definitely enjoying his small Lego (not that it means he has forgotten his Duplo. It is still played with regularly, but smaller Lego is played with too) so I thought maybe I might get him a Lego Advent.......lots of small pieces of plastic to be scattered around the floor during the month of December, hindering my pre Christmas hoovering and likely to have me out of action with an impaled foot.....but there's no harm in looking.
Gone are the days when Lego was sold as generic blocks and kids used their imagination to build vast creations. These days Lego is themed, with special sets for girls (in shades of pink and purple of course), advanced sets for teenagers and adults (after all, no-one is too old for Lego) and sets that are licenced, with Star Wars undoubtedly being the most most popular of these.
So how many advent calendars are there?
As in previous years there are three calendars - Lego City, Lego Friends and the hugely popular Lego Star Wars. If you click on the photos below it will take you directly to Amazon UK where you can check out the current price and order them if you want.
If you want one of the calendars for Christmas, and don't want your little (or big) kids to be disappointed on 1st December then I would seriously order them now. They are selling like hot bricks (haha), with places already selling out in the US.
