Travelling with a toilet trained toddler
So, having successfully spent the last week, or two....or longer patiently toilet training your child it's now time to face the big bad world and venture out of the house - without a nappy or diaper!
Time for the ultimate challenge:
leaving the house with a nappy/diaper free toddler in tow!
However, he wasn't keen to use the toilet without the aid of a seat insert (drat I never thought to bring that) but I assured him that he would be ok. I lifted him onto the toilet and everything was going fine until someone used the very noisy hand drier, he jumped backwards and activated the automatic flush.
This resulted in three weeks of him refusing to leave the house without a diaper! I added a toddler seat to my essential "don't leave home without" list and minimised stress for both of us by letting him wear diapers out of the house until he felt ready to try without.
Now we are past that stage I can look back and think "Yes! We made it!"

The 6 Steps:1. The first step is to prepare yourself mentally for the possibility of accidents in a variety of situations. 2. Secondly, once you have braced yourself to the idea, you need to make sure that you carry a few essential supplies. (see my "Don’t Leave Home Without" list on the right.) 3. Try and make the first few diaperless trips to some place that you and your child are familiar with. 4. Ask your child if they need to use the bathroom before you leave home. 5. Regularly remind them while you are out "Do you need to go pee pee?" 6. Praise every successful trip! What do you need?Difficulty: hard Cost: Maybe your sanity! You Need:

(and your little one) with a treat. You both made it!
